FAQs
What’s the differeNce between coaching and mentoring??
The difference lies in the roles, the tools and the approaches. A mentor is more like a trusted advisor. As a Coach, I will serve the role more of a co-creator of the personal or professional life you want to lead. The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as "a partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership."
What should I look for in a coach?
Vibe and connection are key! It’s why I offer a free session or consultation. Relationship is a key dynamic in Coaching and you want to find someone who can not only provide you the practical growth paths but also who gets you.
Do you give advice?
As a general rule, no. However, I will occasionally ask if I can share observations or if you would be open to feedback. A Coach, different from a mentor, will push you to identify the advice necessary for an informed decision or next steps.
why invest in coaching?
In short, Coaching can increase employee engagement and retention when applied effectively. In doing so, Coaching can also increase confidence and interpersonal skills. And finally, Coaching can dramatically improve individual performance.
What does a coach look for in a client?
I tend to look for someone who is open to the idea and practice of interrogating many of the assumptions related to leadership and the world of “adulting”. It’s the easiest way to identify, and even construct, uncommon solutions for uncommon times.
Do you approach your DEIJB consulting similar to how you approach coaching?
There are numerous areas where my Coaching and my consulting intersect. Most notably, inter-personal relationships systems thinking and strategy are areas where there are similar approaches. However, the role of Coach and consultant are very different.
